TOP 10 DANGEROUS TOYS FOR THE HOLIDAYS


Latest Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Report On Toy Safety Indicates 33% Increase In Toy Related Deaths In Past Year
— According to the latest Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) report on Toy Safety, there have been 17 toy related deaths of children younger than 15 this past year.  This number marks a 33% increase, or 5 more deaths than the previous year.  The Keenan’s Kids Foundation, an organization dedicated to child safety for over 18 years, has identified 10 potentially hazardous toys that represent a variety of dangers many parents may be unaware of in the hopes that parents will learn what general types of toys to avoid this holiday season.

Watchdog Encouraged by FDA’s Planned Testing
Expanded DNA testing of seafood by regulators applauded    
 
As part of a conference call with members of the National Fisheries Institute, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) discussed plans to ramp up its new DNA fish testing program. Over just the next few months regulators say they will be pulling 100 samples from imports, warehouses, and distribution centers. This pilot will enable FDA to focus its future efforts, which are expected to include pulling close to 1,000 samples.

Community Physician Dr. Maiysha Clairborne MD announced the inaugural event, the "Removing the Mask" Domestic Violence Awareness Masquerade Party to take place in Atlanta, Georgia October 29th 2011 at The Defoors Center Art Gallery. This event willbring together communities, health professionals, and advocates in support of bringing an end to domestic abuse. This masquerade-themed evening is open to the public, and will feature live music, dancing, spoken word performances, food and cocktails.

BCID’s Traffic Officer Program Impacted by On-going
Occupy Atlanta Demonstrations
 
Due to the continued Occupy Atlanta demonstrations, the Atlanta Police Department has placed all officers on 12-hour shifts indefinitely.  As a result, all off-duty Atlanta Police officers employed by the Buckhead Community Improvement District (BCID) will be unable to work the evening traffic control program along Piedmont Road and Roswell Road/Habersham Road.  At this time there is no set date for this protest to end; therefore, the BCID off-duty traffic officer program is postponed until further notice.
