SPECIAL EVENT: Family Day – Bid Bonjour to the Budding BlossomsSunday, March 13, 12 to 5 p.m. Join us for a Family Day of looking at photos, photography workshops, family portraits and fabulous French music all inspired by “Henri Cartier-Bresson: The Modern Century.”
 
March Friday Jazz: Friday, March 18, 5 to 10 p.m. March’s Friday Jazz artist is trombonist Chris Crenshaw.

Stories in Form: Chair Design by the Portfolio Center at Museum of Design Atlanta


 

This spring, the Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) in partnership with the Portfolio Center, presents an exhibition honoring history and design through the medium of the chair.

Stories in Form: Chair Design by the Portfolio Centerruns February 5 through June 3, 2012.
 
The works featured inStories in Formare created as part of the Portfolio Center’s nationally acclaimed course “Modernism: History, Criticism and Theory,” which explores design history as a catalyst for new design ideas. While learning about Modernism, the history of design and the development of critical thinking skills, students in the course create chairs by means of a design process that combines inspiration from a historical period with personal experience.

Thursday, December 1 Observe World AIDS Day at MODA's 24-Hour Extravaganza



World AIDS Day is celebrated on December 1 each year around the world. It has become one of the most recognized international health days and is a key opportunity to raise awareness, to commemorate those who have passed on, and to celebrate victories such as increased access to treatment and prevention services. 
 
This year the Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) will commemorate World AIDS Day by staying open for 24 hours (from 12:00am to 11:59pm on December 1).  
 
During that time period, visitors to the museum will have the opportunity to take in two AIDS-related exhibitions,

Giorgio Armani presentsAcqua, an exploration of the theme of water in photographs, at the annual Paris Photo photography fair
Giorgio Armani will partner withParis Photo, the important international photographic showcase, which celebrates its 15 anniversary from November 10-13 and is now located for the first time in the central nave of the Grand Palais.
As official partner of this major event, Giorgio Armani is providing support for the first show that will bring together work from three of the world’s finest museums at the heart of the fair.

NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM OF UTAH TO OPEN NEW BUILDING IN SALT LAKE CITY ON NOVEMBER 18, 2011


 
Iconic Rio Tinto Center Inspired by Utah Landscape Set in the Foothills of the Rocky Mountains
 
 
The Natural History Museum of Utah, located at the University of Utah, will reopen to the public on November 18, 2011 in a stunning new building situated in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, overlooking Salt Lake City and inspired by the diverse landscape of Utah. The $103 million Rio Tinto Center, funded by a public and private partnership, is deeply rooted in place and infused with multiple features that embrace both traditional and new media techniques – a new Museum that sets a new standard for a Natural History Museum of the 21st Century.
