Things have been bustling over here at Urban Eats Consulting Group. The New Year has brought lots of opportunity and change.  So let’s get right to the meat and potatoes;

Food Trucks Thirst for Commissary Space

Are you a commercial realtor with an interest in banking a few commissions? Or, do you know a commercial developer sitting on an empty strip center?  For Pete’s sake, let us know because we have many food truck clients searching for kitchen commissary space.  The ideal space would be under 1500 square feet, located within or on the perimeter, offering parking for a food truck and be reasonably priced.

2012 Foodie Trend: Southern Comfort

I was recently reading one of the many restaurant industry trade publications I subscribe to, a favorite this time of year because I love to see what they all think will be hot trends for 2012.  One of the first trends listed for 2012 inRestaurant Businessis “Southern Comfort.”  As a southerner, born and raised, this of course makes me happy.  From an early age, a few of my favorites were buttermilk biscuits, grits, banana pudding, and my great grandmother’s chicken and dumplings… A dish that I still haven’t perfected after roughly 40 tries.

Let's face it. New Year's resolutions are hard to keep: You're out driving around and get hungry, so you grab junk or fast food. Next thing you know, your resolutions are toast! Deprivation is a recipe for failure, so why not take the right amount of your favorite snack, naughty or nice, with you?

New for 2012, Yum Yum Dishes offers its fun and fabulous portion control bowls with snap-on plastic lids. Take your snacks and resolutions with you to work, workout, shop, taxi kids and pets – wherever you go!

Food Trends 2012 - Inhaling Chocolate & Caffeine and Hummus & Carrots in Vending Machines

Food as the New Eco-Issue
One of our 10 Trends for 2012. The environmental impact of our food choices will become a more prominent concern as stakeholders—brands, governments and activist organizations—drive awareness around the issue and rethink what food is sold and how it’s made. As more regions battle with food shortages and/or spiking costs, smarter practices around food will join the stable of green “best practices.”

Inhaling
From a Harvard professor of biomedical engineering comes inhalable caffeine and chocolate—his company, Breathable Foods, is rolling out AeroShot Pure Energy, an inhaler containing a hit of caffeine mixed with B vitamins; Le Whif provides a chocolate experience sans calories.
