Artists from around the globe to compete for
$10,000 in prizes Alys Beach,
in conjunction with Visit South Walton, invites artists from around the globe
to submit original digital artwork for the Fifth Annual Digital Graffiti
Festival at Alys Beach, a one of a kind juried venue for projected art. Artists
will compete for $10,000 in prize money, awarded in five categories. All work
selected for the 2012 festival will be eligible for the awards, to be held on
June 89. Alys
Beach opens its doors, courtyards, and pedestrian paths to groundbreaking
international artists who literally transform the entire resort town into a
living work of art. |

This
spring, the Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) in partnership with the Portfolio
Center, presents an exhibition honoring history and design through the medium
of the chair.
Stories in Form: Chair
Design by the Portfolio Centerruns February 5 through June 3, 2012.
 The works featured in Stories in Formare created as part of
the Portfolio Center’s nationally acclaimed course “Modernism: History,
Criticism and Theory,” which explores design history as a catalyst for new
design ideas. While learning about Modernism, the history of design and the
development of critical thinking skills, students in the course create chairs
by means of a design process that combines inspiration from a historical period
with personal experience. |

The 4 annual Decatur Old House fair is coming
on February 18 at the newly renovated Courtyard Marriott and

The
unrestricted grant is the first to an Atlanta resident by the artist
advocacy organization since it launched the awards six years ago.
In
addition to being on view at MODA through January 1, 2012, Riis' work
is included in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of
Art, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Cleveland Museum of Art, and
was the focus of recent solo exhibitions at the Southwest School of Art
in San Antonio and the Myrna Myers Gallery in Paris. |

The Ellis Hotel’s Farm to Table Restaurant Selects SCAD Senior to Decorate for the Holidays
Downtown Atlanta’s
eco-friendly boutique hotel, The Ellis, proudly announces Savannah
College of Art and Design (SCAD) Senior, Monet Masters, the winner of
their holiday décor design competition for the hotel’s restaurant,
Terrace on Peachtree. Masters will be installing the decorations on
Friday, December 2, and will be up until January 1, 2012. The competition, a “design on a dime” challenge, began on October 25th,
was open to all SCAD students, who were asked to design holiday
decorations for Terrace on Peachtree within a $500 budget. |

World
AIDS Day is celebrated on December 1 each year around the world. It has
become one of the most recognized international health days and is a
key opportunity to raise awareness, to commemorate those who have passed
on, and to celebrate victories such as increased access to treatment
and prevention services.
This
year the Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) will commemorate World AIDS
Day by staying open for 24 hours (from 12:00am to 11:59pm on December
1).
During that time period, visitors to the museum will have the opportunity to take in two AIDS-related exhibitions, |
