Artists from around the globe to compete for
$10,000 in prizes Alys Beach,
in conjunction with Visit South Walton, invites artists from around the globe
to submit original digital artwork for the Fifth Annual Digital Graffiti
Festival at Alys Beach, a one of a kind juried venue for projected art. Artists
will compete for $10,000 in prize money, awarded in five categories. All work
selected for the 2012 festival will be eligible for the awards, to be held on
June 89. Alys
Beach opens its doors, courtyards, and pedestrian paths to groundbreaking
international artists who literally transform the entire resort town into a
living work of art. |

spring, the Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) in partnership with the Portfolio
Center, presents an exhibition honoring history and design through the medium
of the chair.
Stories in Form: Chair
Design by the Portfolio Centerruns February 5 through June 3, 2012.
 The works featured in Stories in Formare created as part of
the Portfolio Center’s nationally acclaimed course “Modernism: History,
Criticism and Theory,” which explores design history as a catalyst for new
design ideas. While learning about Modernism, the history of design and the
development of critical thinking skills, students in the course create chairs
by means of a design process that combines inspiration from a historical period
with personal experience. |

Gardens are the personal gardens of award-winning landscape designer
Jim Gibbs and feature the nation’s largest Japanese Garden
A new 300-acre estate garden designed by
award-winning landscape designer Jim Gibbs and featuring 16 luxurious
gardens less than one hour from Atlanta will open to the public in March
2012. The Gibbs Gardens estate is distinguished by 220 acres of gardens
set in a mature forest in the foothills of the North Georgia Mountains.
The
gardens feature the 40-acre Japanese Gardens, the largest in the
nation, and the Water Lily Gardens, featuring 140 varieties of unique
lilies and a replica of the bridge in Monet’s Garden at Giverny (outside
Paris). |
