Fifth Annual Digital Graffiti Festival Calls for Artist Submissions


Artists from around the globe to compete for $10,000 in prizes

Alys Beach, in conjunction with Visit South Walton, invites artists from around the globe to submit original digital artwork for the Fifth Annual Digital Graffiti Festival at Alys Beach, a one of a kind juried venue for projected art. Artists will compete for $10,000 in prize money, awarded in five categories. All work selected for the 2012 festival will be eligible for the awards, to be held on June 89.
 
Alys Beach opens its doors, courtyards, and pedestrian paths to groundbreaking international artists who literally transform the entire resort town into a living work of art.

This spring, the Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) in partnership with the Portfolio Center, presents an exhibition honoring history and design through the medium of the chair.

Stories in Form: Chair Design by the Portfolio Centerruns February 5 through June 3, 2012.
 
The works featured inStories in Formare created as part of the Portfolio Center’s nationally acclaimed course “Modernism: History, Criticism and Theory,” which explores design history as a catalyst for new design ideas. While learning about Modernism, the history of design and the development of critical thinking skills, students in the course create chairs by means of a design process that combines inspiration from a historical period with personal experience.

"Shack, shanty, flat," features multidisciplinary works that look at houses and the possibility of knowing something about their occupants through exterior clues.

New 300-Acre Estate Garden Opening in March 2012 in Atlanta Area



Gibbs Gardens are the personal gardens of award-winning landscape designer Jim Gibbs and feature the nation’s largest Japanese Garden

 A new 300-acre estate garden designed by award-winning landscape designer Jim Gibbs and featuring 16 luxurious gardens less than one hour from Atlanta will open to the public in March 2012. The Gibbs Gardens estate is distinguished by 220 acres of gardens set in a mature forest in the foothills of the North Georgia Mountains.

The gardens feature the 40-acre Japanese Gardens, the largest in the nation, and the Water Lily Gardens, featuring 140 varieties of unique lilies and a replica of the bridge in Monet’s Garden at Giverny (outside Paris).

Fine Arts Atelier Open Encaustic Studio Night   Fine Arts Workshop's January Open Encaustic classes will be held on the 11th and 25th.  Our January 11th class is SOLD OUT and the January 25th class is nearly full, so sign up now!  Our first class will focus on Encaustic works on paper, in the second we will work with accretion.  A supply list will be provided in advance. The evenings will be run by Rae Broyles and Penny Treese. Michael David will be doing critiques at the end of every second session.
